I'm a twenty-nine year old Army wife currently living near a large Army post. I have an unhealthy obsession with Dr. Pepper, the Internet, cloth diapers, and ridiculous TV shows. I'm a stay at home mom to two beautiful daughters, AJ and Amelia. We also have a 6 year old beagle named Abby who is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Stop Stressing Me Out!

I'm just gonna say it.

I can't do Twitter right now because all the people tweeting about the possible government shut down and military not getting paid is stressing me out.

I'm realistic, I understand that there is a good chance that things will not go the way I want. At the same time, I would like to remain in my little bubble as long as possible not focus on something that I can't change right now. I'm being super stingy with our money this pay period and hoping for the best (i.e. at least 1/2 a check) next payday. We have a little bit saved up and only a few bills that NEED to be paid in the next few weeks. We'll be fine and I'd rather not talk about it anymore.

Anyone else with me?

  1. I'm with you. I asked my husband if he was worried and he just said, why worry about something you have no power to change?

  2. I actually *am* a little bit worried...and I was one of those that totally blew off the Army Times several weeks ago. But now that it's getting down to the wire, I find myself a little freaked out. Anywho...what will be, will be.

  3. OccDoc told me I couldn't get new shoes this weekend. I am VERY worried. What is this government shutdown going to do for my shopping addiction? Have some priorities, people! Squabble all you want, but don't tread on my right to buy new SHOES!

Just kidding, kind of. OccDoc did tell me to hold out on new running shoes for a month or so, but we have our emergency fund for situations like this. So, we won't have to go hungry. Barefoot, but not hungry.

  4. I'm super sick of reading about it, and even more sick of reading about how some people say it WON'T affect us and other people saying it WILL affect us and honestly I have no clue what is true anymore. But feeling powerless sucks, I and know for darn sure we have sacrificed enough already without having to be asked to sacrifice a paycheck.

  5. I was just told by a milspouse, who has seen how stressed I've been about our leave getting approved the last 7 weeks so we can go on the trip I won last year to Jamaica, that they're not going to let us go. Did I mention we're leaving tomorrow?

I am SO on board with you! I'm tired of hearing about it and having people act like experts on it. Ugh!

  6. Girl, I know. My facebook wall is full of worryful statuses. I am sick of hearing about it...and even more sick that it might acutally happen! I'm just sad that our military and their families are even put in this situation in the first place. The whole government thing is just one big pissing contest between the house and the senate. I wish they would just make up their minds already!!

We've got some money saved up...I just never dreamed we'd have to use it for something like this. It's really disappointing and disheartening. We shouldn't have to worry about our boys (and girls) out there at war and also have to worry about whether or not we can pay our bills and put food on the table. Enough already! Here's hoping for the best, preparing for the worst! Such is the life of a military wife! Hang in there girl! :)

  7. I'm only worried because while we already weren't going to get paid the next two checks (thank you finance), the possibility of a short check on the 15th could mean we lose three which we don't have enough money for. *sigh* And I'm worried they'll screw up our pay again when/if back pay happens. Otherwise, I'm only upset that they are putting the military through this, but for now it is what it is.
