My photo
I'm a twenty-nine year old Army wife currently living near a large Army post. I have an unhealthy obsession with Dr. Pepper, the Internet, cloth diapers, and ridiculous TV shows. I'm a stay at home mom to two beautiful daughters, AJ and Amelia. We also have a 6 year old beagle named Abby who is as dumb as a box of rocks.

Mamarazzi Monday!

This week's edition of Mamarazzi Monday is focusing on the other baby in my life!

One of Abby's doggie friends celebrated her 3rd birthday this week and she brought over some doggie cupcakes for Abby to enjoy!
The before picture.

Mid-way through.

Almost done.

She obviously didn't like it at all!

Finished!

Ready to go out now!

Volunteering

Since I actually did something this weekend, I figured that I would update y'all on how it went.

On Saturday afternoon my friend M and I volunteered at the USO for the first time. We went to the orientation (I use this term lightly, we filled out an application, they showed us where all the stuff was and gave us a piece of paper stating that we must wear at least short sleeves and closed-toe shoes) for it last weekend and decided to help out this weekend.

I'm not going to lie. I was a little bit nervous. I wasn't really sure what to expect. What if the soldiers were rude to us? What if all the other volunteers were seasoned pros and we looked like useless nerds? What if we felt out of place?

Well, after our first shift, I think it is fair to say that none of the above-mentioned situations played out. The soldiers were all more than polite, downright friendly even. The volunteers were far from seasoned pros. In fact, there were several other first-timers there alongside us! The more seasoned workers were super friendly and showed us the ropes, then made us feel right at home!

I was placed in the snack bar and honestly, it brought back memories! I felt as if I were back in college working at the food court again! Ha! Those were the days! I may or may not have looked like a nerd in my baseball hat though. I couldn't tell you though, I avoided the mirror! ;)

All in all, it was nice to get to spend an afternoon away from my domestic obligations that did not involve grocery shopping or working out!

House-Hunting....Online?

We are at sort of a crossroads in military life. We just moved here to FLW and we already know when and where our next PCS will be. I'm pretty sure this is the first time in the history of the Army that this has happened to someone. ;) D is only here to attend a 6 month long course, we we will be moving on most likely before 2010 is over. Yep. We're moving twice in 7 months with a baby. Sounds fun, huh?

Well, I think it will be fun! Our next post is more than likely going to be our "home" for the rest of D's time in the Army. We have lots of friends who are stationed there or will be stationed there about the time we get there. We can settle in and raise our family there. We can move there and probably never have to move again with the Army (there might be one more move in there, but we'll always end up back at the "home" base).

We decided to buy a house there.

Eeeek! D and I have been grateful renters for our entire married life, me for several years before that as well. I love renting. If something goes wrong, you call maintenance and they come fix it for you. For free. You don't have to deal with broken AC units or plumbing problems. You don't pay property taxes of HOA fees. All that will be thrown out the window when we buy a house!

Even though I'm silently freaking out about this change, I am also really, really excited about it. I feel like we're ready for it and we will finally be able to make changes to suit our tastes. We will be able to paint the walls, put up a fence, or plant a garden and we know we will be around to tend to it next year.

We have moved 4 times since D commissioned in May 2007. Yep. That is 4 times in 3 years. We're not talking about cross-town moves here, either. We are awesome at packing up all our worldly belongings, driving across the country, baby and dog in tow and sleeping in hotels for weeks on end. I am also excellent at looking at rental houses online and finding our newest temporary lodging home from more than 2,000 miles away.

This time its a little different. We are looking at houses to purchase online. Obviously I will make a trip to our new base before we buy a house, but the bulk of our house hunting is being done on a MacBook from more than 1,000 miles away. It just seems different from all the rental searches I've done in the past. I feel like I should be there looking at these places instead of sitting on my sofa. In due time, I guess.

Looking at houses online can be tough. You are dependent on the pictures that are provided to you. There is always a lot more to the house than you can see in pictures. I think that freaks me out a little bit. In the past the mindset has been, well, if we hate it, we only have to live there for a year. When purchasing a home though, the mindset is there that, if we hate it, we have to still continue to pay the mortgage for another 29 years! Yes, we can change things, but that costs money! What if the neighborhood looks great at first viewing, but once we move in we realize that everyone who lives there are actually swingers?! Okay, so that is unlikely, but you get my point.

What are your thoughts on this? Any other milspouses (or civilians) "house-shopped" online before physically viewing them?

Friday Fill-In

I am seeing lots of people doing this today, and I have some time on my hands this afternoon while AJ naps, so here goes!
1. How did you and your spouse/significant other meet?
We met during our junior year of high school at a mutual friend's going-away party. The rest, as they say, is history. Not really, but its a super long story and a post for another day.

2. What is the best thing about being a MilSpouse?
The friends I have met all over the country. We have moved 4 times in the past 3 years and I honestly wouldn't change that for the world, because with each move I met a new life-changing friend. Secondly, but just as important:
the pride that I have in my husband and what he does. The guaranteed paycheck doesn't hurt either. ;)

3. What is the hardest thing about being a MilSpouse?
Moving. Deployments. Being far from "home." Not having control over anything. Never being able to make definite plans.

4. What is your favorite dish?
Usually, fajitas are my go-to dish. I make them at home, I order them when we go out. I love them. Well, today I would have to say something with massive amounts of carbs. I'm really missing the paleo diet's lack of bread and pasta today.

5. If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?
I want people in general to be more aware. I think our generation tends to walk around with either their head in the clouds or the sand. To me it seems as if the world is going to hell in a handbasket and no one cares! Oil has been leaking into our oceans for 67 days. Afghanistan has officially become the U.S.'s longest war. We have surpassed the 4,000 mark for U.S. casualties in Iraq and 1,000 in Afghanistan. We continue to pollute our air, water and land. For what? Wake up people! Take the earbuds out of your ears and look around you. This is not going to be here forever!

Wow. Small rant there. I just think there is so much change that we're capable of that people need a wake-up call to start doing something about it! Use a cloth grocery bag. Buy local. Walk to work.

**I forgot to link back to Wife of a Sailor, so I'm adding the link now!

A Bookshelf Full of Unread Books...

Before D and I got married I worked for a publishing company. I was an English major in college and love to read, so this was basically the ideal job for me. One of the perks was that as employees, we received a copy of every book the company published, for free (seriously, best.job.ever.). I only worked there for about a year, but during that time I accumulated quite the collection of books.

I was going through my bookshelf the other day and I realized that there are quite a few books that I either acquired while working for the publisher or bought myself and then never got around to reading. I decided to make a goal to read them. I realize that it might take me a while to actually complete this goal, but personally, I think its kind of lame when people have tons of books on their shelves that they haven't actually read. I think its rather hypocritical of me to feel that way and have lots of unread books displayed for all to see.

Surprisingly, quite a few of the books on my shelf are what would be considered "classics" that I was never required to read in any of my English classes. Or, if I'm being honest, was assigned and just didn't read. Being an English major is tough. Each one of your professors knows that you're taking 4 other classes just like his (or hers) and still assigns a book a week. Who has time to read all of them and then write the papers on them?!

I kind of feel though, that someone who holds a degree in English should have read most, if not all of the classics (geez, snobbish much?). Thus, my collection. I mean, who really has time to sit down and read Great Expectations or Pride and Prejudice in real life, when its not required? I purchased the books, and never took the time to read them.

I'm not going to list all of the books on my shelf that are yet-to-be-read, but I will state that there are more than 50 titles on my list. There are a few books that I don't have on my bookshelf that I added to the list because I want to read them as well, so there are not actually 50 unread books on my shelf.

But, I'm wondering, do you have books that you bought (or somehow acquired) that you haven't read? What are some of the classics that you think are important to read, English degree or not? Any in particular that are your favorites?

While writing and especially re-reading this post before I hit "publish" I realized that I am a judgmental person when it comes to books and reading, which is ironic, because I love a sappy romance or chic lit book as much as the next person. Please note: I won't judge you for what you read, but what you don't read. ;)

These Are a Few of My Favorite (Baby) Things!

We recently moved to an area of the country that not only has no big box baby store, it has no Tarjay. I know, you didn't know that there was an area of the country without one, right? Well, we have found it folks. The WallyWorld here in town has a sad selection of baby stuff and since we have a baby, and she needs things, I have been doing quite a bit of shopping online (D hates this because my spending gets a little out of control high.

With that being said, here are some of my most recent scores and purchases that have been ever-so-kindly delivered to our front door lately.

We have several of these "BooginHead" binky clips. Love them!

The cutest little swim suit in the world!

WallyWorld doesn't even sell these bottles (my faves).

Not new, but continues to be a favorite around our house.

Exersaucer...we're growing into it.

AJ's "bugs"! She just stares at these guys whenever she's in her carseat, its so cute!

AJ hasn't quite mastered the art of grabbing/holding things yet, so a traditional teether is out. This one isn't too hard, but seems to do the trick. I'm not completely sure she's teething, but she likes to chew on things a lot.

What are the things you can't live without? How much of your shopping do you do online?

Update

I went to the gym this morning and ran a 5k! I tend to be the type that sets my timer for 30 minutes and gets off the treadmill when it beeps. Today I decided to run a distance, no matter how long it took. The whole time I was running I was thinking to myself, "push out of your comfort zone." Who am I kidding, I was actually thinking, "don't throw up!" and "why did I wear these freaking shorts when they ride up so bad I have to pull them down every 3 steps?"

In the end though, 3.1 miles is still 3.1 miles. Log it.

Wednesday Workout Update!

I decided that in the name of alliteration, Wednesday will now be dubbed "Wednesday Workout Update" until further notice! I mentioned recently that I wanted to get healthy and back into shape not only to just feel better about myself, but also because I am planning to run some serious races in the not-so-distant future.

With that being said, my workouts have been okay. Last week I ran twice, logging a grand total of 5.48 miles. I think that is decent considering the fact that I haven't worked out in, oh, let's say, a year. I got the stroller out and walked around our neighborhood with AJ on the days that I didn't go to the gym (its so hot and humid here that just walking made me look and feel like I had gone for a run). I kind of took the weekend off (okay, I gave myself a 3-day weekend), so this week its back to the grind.

I walked outside yesterday and missed the window of opportunity for outdoor walking this morning. That just means that I'll have to leave AJ with D while I go plod along on the dreadmill at the gym this afternoon. I'm hoping that once life gets back to normal in a few weeks I can put AJ in hourly care for an hour or so each morning and do my run without having to "schedule" it with D. Believe it or not, life gets more simple when D goes back to work!

I'm A Cave Man...er...Woman!

And by cave woman, I mean paleo diet follower! D and I decided that we needed to start eating more healthy foods and taking better care of ourselves, not to mention, lose some weight. I mentioned it a week or so ago in this post. We came to the conclusion that we needed something that would work and something drastic.

In a nutshell, the paleo diet consists of eating like a prehistoric man would have eaten. He ate lots of lean proteins like meat, poultry, and fish in addition to all the fruits and vegetables he could find. Sugars, cereals and grains were almost non-existant, as were tuberous vegetables. That means no traditional carbohydrates like bread, pasta, potatoes, beans, etc. Certain types of oils are okay, but no butter and no salt!

When we first started I told D that I wasn't sure I would be able to do it. I am a carbo-load type of girl. I don't feel full at a meal unless there has been some sort of bread or starchy veggie on my plate.

Well, we're about 2.5 days into this diet and while its been super expensive so far, we're both feeling great and I have to admit that I haven't had any problems feeling full. The idea is that if you're hungry, you should eat. You should eat whatever it takes to make you feel full, and since you're eating lean protein and fruits and veggies, its not really fattening!

So far I've lost about 3 lbs! Can't knock that!

Mamarazzi Monday!

Its that time again! Its time fooooor....

These pictures are from our little impromptu photo shoot this morning. AJ was up and at 'em and just as happy as a clam!
Such a pretty smile!

The scrunchy nose is adorable in this one.

I like this last one because it captures the craziness of her arm movements. She's whipping it around so fast you almost can't see it!

And in honor of Father's Day yesterday (and because I am an awesome wife/photographer and forgot to take even one picture of my two loves together) I snapped this one a few minutes ago. I plan to tell everyone that it was taken yesterday. ;) D (yes, he still has a job, he is on leave right now) is still sleeping and AJ is already on to her first nap of the day.
Please don't judge the horrendously messy bedroom (or the ridiculous "organizer" that my husband insists on keeping on his bedside table, so classy babe).

Happy Father's Day!

I want to wish a very happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband, my own Daddy, and my fabulous Father in Law, as well as all the other Dads out there!

Happy Father's Day, D!

Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Happy Father's Day, Steve!

The Move From Hell

I'm sure some of you are wondering how the move is coming along. Well....let's just say that this move has officially been dubbed "the move from hell." The moving company that moved us is by far the worst we have ever worked with. We're talking, people not returning phone calls, and worse.

Our household goods arrived on Tuesday (YAY) at around 4 in the afternoon. Seriously. The truck pulled up at 4:00 pm. The driver and one other guy unloaded everything and started putting some of our furniture together and finally left at 10:00 pm. Nothing had been unpacked because they told us that they were just movers, not an unpacking team. They also informed us that they had been sitting in the office since 8:00 that morning waiting to get dispatched to bring us our stuff. WHAT?!?

So anyway, we're happy to have our stuff and call our move manager the next morning (Wednesday) to see about have an unpacking team come to the house. She didn't answer and still has not called us back. D called the local JPPSO office Wednesday about mid-day and the manager there told us that if we hadn't heard from her by yesterday at noon to let him know. Well, we let him know. We also let him know that we were going to unpack and that someone needed to come get all the garbage when we finished.

We are still unpacking, the completion date for the contract has come and gone and this is what our house looks like now:

AJ's room. Yes, that is the crib leaning against the wall, unassembled.

Living room.

Bedroom.

Kitchen.
I'm a little annoyed, to say the least.

I Need Workout Music!

After my run yesterday I realized that I am badly in need of some good workout music. I tried scouring my iTunes and found a few songs that I like to run to/get me pumped up, but that was it. Unfortunately, D tends to listen to "screamy" music when he works out (is this a guy thing?) and that is just not going to work for me.

With that being said, does anyone have any suggestions for music that gets them going during a workout? Here is what I have so far (to give you an idea of what I like to run to):

So What by P!nk
Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson
Your Love Is My Drug by Ke$ha
Low (feat. T-Pain) by Flo Rida
Rock That Body by Black Eyed Peas
Spiderwebs by No Doubt
Empire State of Mind (feat. Alicia Keys) by Jay-Z
Turn My Swag On by Soulja Boy Tell 'Em
Poker Face by Lady Gaga
California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) by Katy Perry
Don't Trust Me by 3OH!3
Paper Planes by M.I.A.
Let It Rock by Kevin Rudolf & Lil Wayne
Whatever You Like by T.I.
I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas
Tik Tok by Ke$ha
Alcohol by Barenaked Ladies
Paralyzer by Finger Eleven
Tangerine Speedo by Caviar
Right Round by Flo Rida
Paparazzi by Lady Gaga

I really want to add a bunch more stuff to this play list so that I don't end up listening to the same songs over and over again. I know that I will get really sick of running to it and then I'm back to hoping there is something good on the TV attached to my dreadmill. The other downfall of the TV is that it really fails to get me pumped up, especially at the end of my run, and I need something to keep my feet movin'!

HELP!

Super Cute Stuff and a Fabulous Giveaway!

The Mrs. over at Trying Our Best is hosting a fabulous giveaway for military families or anyone who knows someone who serves our country. She is giving away a handmade blue star service banner, like this one, to one of her readers (note that it will be unframed).

If you are not familiar with what a service banner is or what it represents, she has an excellent link that explains it on her site. You should go check it out. You should actually mosey on over there anyway and enter the giveaway yourself if you haven't already!

Her mom has an awesome Etsy store and she sells super cute stuff in addition to the service banner she's giving away. I headed on over to her store and was checking out the selection. I ended up buying two other things from her. If I don't win the giveaway, I'm going to go back over there and buy a service banner for myself.

Happy Birthday!

Just wanted to send a big happy birthday shout out to 2 wonderful people celebrating birthdays this week!

Hutchy's was June 13th, so Happy 25th Birthday Hutchy!
My brother and Hutchy hanging out a few years ago.

And Mandy's is today! So, Happy 26th Birthday Mandy!
Me and Mandy at her wedding last September.

Day 1 Completed

I meant to get on last night and let you all know that I started my exercise regime yesterday. I went to the gym here on post and plodded ran on the treadmill. I ran about 2.5 miles. It wasn't pretty. I walked some (I didn't count the walking in my mileage, in case you were wondering). I just had to keep reminding myself that if I keep it up, it will get easier. I also weighed myself, which I think was probably the scariest and ugliest part of the trip. Ugh.

Today is day 2, so by default, it shouldn't be quite as bad as day 1, right?!

On a side note. The movers still aren't here. We were assured that they would be here today and that they would call us in the morning to let us know when to expect them. Well, the clock is ticking and the morning is slowly slipping away. Its 1028. I'm guessing that we would be wise to not expect them today. GRR. I was really hoping to have furniture and not have to sleep on an air mattress for another night. We have officially been "camping" in our own house for 7 nights. I just don't understand what could be taking them so long to get here. You had better believe that when the survey comes and its time for us to rate these people they should run and hide. I'm not going to sugar coat it.

The same exact thing happened to us this move with the packers. The company said that based on our inventory, our house would take 2 days to pack. We told them that we didn't have 2 days, so they said that the packers would be allowed to take overtime that day to get it all finished. Well, the packers took advantage of that and literally took 4 hours to pack one room in our house. It wasn't even the kitchen. Needless to say, when the manager stopped by that afternoon to check on progress, he wasn't happy and yanked their overtime. The company sent out a crew of packers along with the loaders to finish the job the next day. Seriously though, I think the packers thought that they would milk the whole overtime thing and slack off. So annoying.

Now the movers know that they have until the 17th as the last possible day to deliver our HHG without penalty. I'm thinking that they're just taking advantage of this as well. Sure, if something happened along the way that held them up or whatever, I understand. That is why they add the cushion in the delivery guarantee. However, we have called them numerous times, both the driver and the dispatchers and never got in touch with them nor did they ever call back. That is completely unacceptable, and unprofessional and you had better bet the Army will hear about it from me.

Ok. Rant over. Have a happy Tuesday everyone!

I'm Motivated!

I'm super motivated as of late to start working out and more specifically, start running again! I have been a total blob since AJ was born and honestly, I think I deserved it. Now though, its time to get serious! I'm ready to lose the baby weight and get my skinny belly back. Not to mention the plans I have to run a half marathon in November. Eek. Saying that reminds me how much work I have to do. I can't just start training for that. I have to get in shape first, then start the training.

I've done it before. I went from out of shape to half marathoner in a few months back in 2007, but that was a little different. I wasn't fresh from a C-Section and I was also 3 years younger! Pregnancy aged me a bit, I'm afraid. But honestly, I'm having visions of myself in cute workout clothes, buff (but not in a yucky way) and feeling good about myself again. I'm envisioning a fitness guru. Okay. Maybe that isn't going to happen, but I would like to establish a healthier lifestyle for D and myself. I mean, how are we going to teach AJ and future children the importance of staying fit and healthy when we are sedentary?

Obviously, we didn't do a great job teaching our first "child" good habits since Abby is about the laziest dog I've ever seen. I swear, she would sleep 24 hours a day if I didn't make her go outside to potty. I blame myself, but more importantly, I vow to break the cycle. AJ will have good role models for parents.

Helping my cause is not only the impeding half marathon in the early winter (I guess its technically late fall), but a conversation I had with a friend over a lunch of gyros and fries (don't judge, my lifestyle change hadn't started yet) last week. She is running the Disney Princess half marathon in Disney World in February. AJ and I are planning on being in Florida for the month of February. Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm going to sign up for it!

I can see myself becoming a runner (again)! I'm so excited for both of these races that I really think I'm going to stick with it. I really tend to be a lot better about working out and making time for it when I have already committed to something, like signing up for a race.

My next move is to register for both of these races. Then I'll be forced to do it. I'll be locked in. This is it.

I can't wait to be healthy again and take my family with me!

Thank Goodness for Internet!

We finally have Internet and cable in our house. This means I can do everything so much easier! The only downside is that we still do not have our household goods, which means we have no furniture, pots, pans, dishes, linens, clothes, etc. other than the stuff we brought with us in the car. Our TVs are part of that shipment. We will just have to download shows on iTunes and watch them on the computer for a little while longer. We're hoping our stuff will be here Monday.

So you're probably wondering what the first thing and Internet addict like me did when we finally got back online. D, AJ and I hopped in the car and went to the farmer's market! Seriously. We got a bunch of great produce and some bread as well. Before you go getting all excited, just envision a park with 2 tents housing some Amish people selling tomatoes, zuchini, homemade bread, and blueberries. That is where we went. They also had some homemade laundry detergent which I might be adventurous next time and buy.

This afternoon will be spend installing the new Apple AirPort Extreme wireless router that we bought last night at the PX. We are so excited to finally have a Mac compatible router! I know, some of you are thinking, "all routers work with Macs." Yes, they do. They don't work well with Macs. The router we had typically required a whole day of phone calls and tech support from India just to establish a shoddy wireless connection to my Mac. D has a PC, and the Internet is always fabulous for him.

We did some research and found this router. In the description and the reviews it says that this is the best wireless router for mixed Mac/PC households, which we continue to be for the time being. Once I finally lure D to the dark side (a.k.a. get him a Mac) the router will still be just as easy to use! Hooray for simplicity!

Blogging From My iPhone

We're in our new house! Unfortunately, we have no furniture and certainly no Internet connection. It is starting to look like we'll have Internet before furniture. The cable company is coming out tomorrow to set everything up and we still have no word from (and can't get ahold of) our movers. GRR!

Seriously. I could understand if we got here super fast or there were other shipments on our truck, but neither of those thongs happened. We have a 3 month old baby, we took a LONG time to drive the 2,700 miles. D also informed me yesterday that we are the only shipment on the truck. He was able to get ahold of someone in WA yesterday who told him that the truck was scheduled to be in Idaho last night. Is the truck actually a covered wagon?!? How does it take 6 days to drive from Washington to Idaho? It didn't even take us 6 days to do the entire trip!

Needless to say, I was starting to get a little bored (and broke) so I decided that I needed to find a way to distract myself. Hence, I downloaded the blogwriter app for my phone so I could update y'all on our fiasco. Oops, I meant, our "move."

On a positive note, I met and had lunch with a friend that I had only previoulsy known online! We had a great time and I forsee many more get-togethers in our future here!

That is all for now!

Mamarazzi Monday!

It's Mamarazzi Monday: Moving Edition.

AJ's standing on the table at lunch with her grandma! She's wearing the cutest hat in the world. Its an apple. It has a stem and a leaf on the top.

My Post From Yesterday

For some reason I wasn't able to post yesterday. There was something going on with blogger and I kept getting an error message. Here is the post I wrote:

When we travel we always have to stay at dog-friendly hotels so Abby can travel with us. D was on the elevator going down to the car to get dog food and a few other things we needed this evening. He was gone for quite a while, but we're on the 4th floor, so I didn't really think anything of it. I got the baby to sleep and was enjoying the Real Housewives of New Jersey when he busted into the room.

D: "I just watched a giant German Shepherd pee and poop...in the elevator!"

Me: "What did the owner do?"

D: "I don't really know, she shrugged and then the doors opened and I took off."

WHAT?!?!

She shrugged? I think a more appropriate reaction would have been to be super embarrassed or perhaps pick it up. Does anyone else find it wrong to travel with a dog that is clearly not house-trained? I would never bring Abby all the places I do if I thought she was going to do her "potty" in the building at all, much less right out in the open like that.

Seriously?!?

I Changed My URL

I just wanted to let everyone know that I changed the URL for my blog. My old address included my whole name and I didn't really want that out there for everyone to know. If you follow me I don't think you'll have any problems finding me, but if you have it bookmarked the old URL doesn't work! Just wanted to let you all know.

Hotel Bloopers

I had to jump on the computer this morning and tell you guys what happened to us last night.

AJ and I were laying in bed, I was watching TV and she was sleeping. D was updating his iPod on the computer when we hear a key slide into our door. We are traveling with my mom and sister, so we didn't really think anything of it. We just figured that one of us had given them a key to our room.

All of a sudden, our door swings open and a Canadian (I didn't see them, but could hear their eh's and oh's from my perch on the bed) couple starts apologizing profusely and our dog is running to the door, tail wagging like crazy! Our dog is less than protective of our family. She tends to be under the impression that a burglar should be invited in for a drink.

Anyways, D is super pissed less than pleased, so he tries to get the front desk on the phone to no avail. Still seething, he muttered something to me about the whole situation being "totally unacceptable" and stomped down the hall to the lobby. He was back 5 minutes later with a key that didn't work. He came in and grabbed both keys and stomped back to the lobby.

Meanwhile, the girl from the front desk calls the room (thanks for waking the sleeping baby) and tells me that she's going to give us a 20% discount on our room and that she is soooo sorry. She was really genuinely sorry and I could tell she felt so bad, so I was kind of okay with the way the whole situation turned out, being that she resolved it.

After all the commotion, I can't help but wonder if the Canadian couple ever found a room of their own!

Has this ever happened to any of you? If so, what did the hotel do to make it right?

Moving Update

We're officially on our way to our new duty station. We finished up with the movers yesterday and turned in our house keys and garage door openers this morning. After that we hit the road! We're done with the first leg of our drive and settled into our hotel.

We ended up staying the night in a hotel last night since we had no furniture at our house. It was kind of sentimental because it was the same hotel we stayed in a year ago when we first got to Washington. Last year we got in on 4th of July and we spent the night watching the fireworks and drinking beer on the roof! This year I have a 3 month old baby and fell into bed, exhausted! LOL Oh, how the times have changed.

AJ has been pretty good so far considering the fact that her schedule it totally off. She really only cried the last hour of the drive today, which for an 8 hour day is not bad. The scenery was beautiful, so I enjoyed the drive as well.

I'm hoping that tomorrow will be a little more eventful. We don't have as far to drive so we should be a bit more relaxed than we were today. We were really just trying to get as far out of town as we could today. I will make sure to do a full account of the trip (hopefully with lots of pictures) once we get settled in at our new house.

Still Alive...

Barely.

Got food poisoning on the way home from the wedding. Spent most of Sunday afternoon/evening sick (and on an airplane, with a baby...fun, fun).

Today was D's promotion to Captain. I've been crazy busy and will continue to be that way until we get to our new duty station next week. I'm not sure if I will have time to blog between now and then, but I hope to be on a few times. Hopefully I'll be able to post from our hotels along the way and possibly upload pictures from the wedding and the promotion tomorrow!

Packers come tomorrow and movers will be here Thursday! Eek!
